Your Visit to the Zoo and Covid-19

When will you open?

We will open to the public Wednesday June 17th. We will have a soft opening for members only starting Monday June 8th through Tuesday June 16th. Our hours will be 10:00am-5:00pm.

How can I purchase tickets?

Tickets can be purchased online by a timed ticketing system. You must purchase your tickets online at this time to be entered into the Zoo. Members still receive free admission but will need to make reservations through timed ticketing. Tickets can only be purchased two weeks in advance.

Are visitors required to wear a facial covering?

We strongly encourage wearing a mask during your visit at the Zoo for the safety of the animals, staff, and yourself. We will have masks for sale in our store kiosks starting June 17th. All Zoo employees are required to wear masks per the Governor’s order.

How is the Zoo sanitizing?

Restrooms will be sanitized three times a day for guests. Tables, chairs, benches and other shared areas will also be sanitized throughout the day by staff.

Will there be more places for my family to wash their hands?

We have added an additional handwashing station in the Barnyard area for your convenience. Additionally, you will find more hand sanitizing stations throughout the zoo.

Will the Train and Carousel be running?

Per Mandate from the State of Michigan and Governor’s orders, we are required to close down our train and carousel rides until we enter Stage 5 of the Coronavirus Recovery Plan. We are currently in Stage 4.

We are aware this is disappointing news, but the order was put in place with the safety of everyone in mind. The safety of our guests, staff and animals has been our top priority during this time and we will follow state mandate until Michigan feels it is safe to move forward.

Your favorite train and carousel will be back up and running when the state enters Stage 5 of recovery.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Are areas of the Zoo closed?

Because of high touch points, there are some areas of the Zoo that will be closed. These include the Rainforest Run Playground, Fossil Find, Underwater Viewing Cave, Conductor’s Tower Playscape, Train Depot, Aviary, Goat Yard, and Australian Walkabout (the observation deck is still open).

Is there a limited menu at the Café?

Yes, in our Train Whistle Café, we will not be selling hot dogs, soft pretzels, and popcorn. Pre-packaged food, beverages, and Dippin’ Dots will be available for purchase.

Is the Zoo Store open?

Our Gift Shop building will be closed to visitors. We will have a kiosk stationed near the Carousel selling plush, books, and other souvenirs. A second kiosk will be stationed outside the Train Depot selling zoo apparel, water bottles, and mugs. Ride tickets will be available for purchase at each kiosk.
