Bobcat arrives at the Children's Zoo!Read about Kyra on MLive The Children's Zoo at Celebration Square welcomes Kyra, a 4-year-old female bobcat as its newest resident, who arrived at the Zoo on December 12, 2009. Kyra can be found in her newly renovated home in the Forgotten Forest alongside her new neighbors, the Zoo's Grey Wolves, Bald Eagles, Donkeys and American Crow.
AZA AccreditationHave you heard the great news? Your regional Children's Zoo at Celebration Square recently became accredited by the Association of Zoos & Aquariums. This is a huge accomplishment for the Zoo and a wonderful feather in our region's cap! We are now one of only five zoos in the state of Michigan to be AZA accredited. We join the ranks of the Detroit Zoo, Potter Park Zoo in Lansing, John Ball Zoo in Grand Rapids and Binder Park Zoo in Battle Creek. Wow! And there are only 221 zoos worldwide accredited through AZA. This accomplishment wouldn't be a reality without community support. We sincerely hope that you come visit your newly accredited Zoo this season! Roots & ShootsThe Roots & Shoots program, an education program that encourages service learning brought Saginaw County Head Start Students to the Zoo for a special program on Earth Day, April 22nd, 2009. This program was sponsored by Americorp VISTA, Saginaw Community Foundation, Head Start, Home Depot and the Children's Zoo. Students and parents of the Head Start program were able to learn about Atom, the Iguana, then build Atom a new habitat at the zoo. See all their hard work!
